There are two new state-based schemes from 1 January 2009. For Victoria, there's the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET), and for South Australia there's the Residential Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES). These schemes are state government energy efficiency initiatives which require energy retailers to promote household energy efficiency through a number of prescribed activities. These prescribed activities include installation of energy efficient lighting, hot water services, and heating and cooling systems, as well as household energy audits in South Australia. To realise the benefits of improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions there are costs associated with the delivery of these prescribed activities which we need to pass onto our customers.
