Your guide to concessions, rebates and grants
The Department Of Human Services has changed the way concessions are processed by Australia Post and electricity retailers. From 1 October 2009 customers will no longer be able to claim the concession amount at Australia Post unless they have pre-registered their concession card details with their electricity retailer. If you are entitled to Victorian government electricity concessions (because you hold a relevant Centrelink or DVA card) and have not previously registered these details with Powerdirect, please call our Customer Service team on 1300 307 966 (8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday).
To be Eligible for a Victorian Energy Concession you will need to have a valid:
- Pensioner Concession Card ( issued by Centrelink or DVA)
- Health Care Card (except Child Disability, Foster Care)
- Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Gold Card (except Dependant)
A concession can only be claimed if:
- the energy account is in the name of the concession cardholder;
- the supply address is the domestic primary residence of the cardholder; and
- your electricity account is billed on a domestic tariff.
The range of Energy Concessions available in Victoria are:
- Winter Energy Concession – Discount off electricity bills issued between May and October;
- Medical Cooling Concession is available from November to April;
- Life Support Machines;
- Off Peak Concession;
- Utility Relief Grant Scheme: The Utility Relief Grant Scheme provides assistance for domestic customers who are unable to pay their utility bills due to a temporary financial crisis.
