Your guide to South Australia concessions, rebates and grants

As of 1 July 2010, concession card holders may be eligible to receive up to $150 per year towards gas and electricity use. The full amount of the concession you are entitled to will be paid through your electricity bills.

In South Australia, the energy bill concession scheme is administered by the Department of Families and Communities (DFC) and your application must be submitted to them directly for processing.

To be eligible, customers must hold one of the following concessions and demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Hold a Pensioner concession card,
  • Hold a Department of Veterans’ Affairs gold card - (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions),
  • A full time student receiving Abstudy or Austudy,
  • Receive an eligible Centrelink allowance and hold a Centrelink Health Care Card (on appropriate payment),
  • Hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card,
  • Hold a South Australia State Concessions Card, or,
  • Hold a New Zealand or British War Widow pension.

A concession can only be claimed if:

  • the address for which you are claiming the concession is your principal place of residence;
  • your name appears on your electricity bill (unless your home does not have an electricity meter and/or you do not receive accounts from an established energy retailer, for example, if you live in a retirement village); or
  • you are not living with anyone who has an income of more than $3,000 per year, unless they are your spouse/domestic partner/dependant, or they receive an allowance from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
