Refrigeration

New Fridges & Freezers

When installing refrigeration in your business, ensure you choose the right size for the amount of stock you will hold. Too large and you will pay to keep empty space cold!

Also consider where you position fridges and freezers. Ensure they are located away from heat sources (including sunlight) and also ensure there is adequate airflow around motors, compressors and vents to ensure hot air can escape.

Keep Well Stocked

Ensure that all fridges and freezers are restocked at the end of each day and that any cool rooms are filled with as much stock as possible. This will reduce the cold air lost when doors are opened regularly and also reduce the energy required to cool the fridge to the right temperature.

Regular Maintenance & Cleaning

On a regular basis clean all refrigerated units to ensure efficient operation and maintain good hygiene. Ensure that all fans, motors and other moving parts are cleaned as well to remove dust and ice, which will increase the running costs.

Make sure that all hinges, catches and sealing strips are all in working order and undamaged. Any gaps allowing cold air to escape will dramatically increase the cost of running your refrigeration systems.

Cheap, Effective & Simple

Installing air curtains or plastic strips in cool rooms will reduce the hot air entering and pay for themselves in no time.

Turn off lighting overnight for fridges and freezers, which will not only reduce the cost of the lighting but also reduce the heat generated by the bulbs.

Covering fridges and freezers at the close of business with thermal covers will reduce the energy required to keep stock cool when no one is around.
