Summer Energy Saving Tips

Powerdirect is reminding customers to be aware of energy saving tips for summer cooling at home and for businesses.

Powerdirect Chief Operating Officer Kate Skilleter said keeping cool could be expensive but with a little smart thinking, customers could save on energy costs without sacrificing comfort.

“As temperatures soar we can expect an increase in air conditioning usage,” Ms Skilleter said.

“This could lead to a quick jump in energy bills over the summer months which may come as a surprise to many people.”

Ms Skilleter said air conditioners and pool filters could consume large amounts of electricity and make up a significant part of the quarterly power bill for many people.

“We urge our customers to ensure they keep their use to an efficient and cost-effective minimum,” she said

“Simple tips like choosing the right sized air conditioner, temperature settings, closing curtains and blinds doors and windows, using the recirculation setting, cleaning filters and home insulation all contribute to keeping your home cool and can make a significant difference to your electricity bill,” Ms Skilleter said.

Customers should also consider various tariff options that are available to them for both air conditioning and pool filters.

Connecting pool filtering equipment to a cheaper tariff could reduce operating costs by 50%.

“Customers should make sure they have the right size filter for their pool and use it correctly to keep the water clean,” Ms Skilleter said.

“Timers on filters should also be checked regularly to make sure they are working properly,” she said.

Powerdirect offers customers advice to help them understand their electricity usage and save money at the same time.
